Celebrating the Crone
July 24-26, 2009
This is a special retreat and annual get-together for Women interested in Goddess Worship as a Path to personal development. We celebrate our womanhood and spiritual nature in the company of our sisters. We welcome maidens who are attending with their mothers as well as any age mothers and daughters who wish to share this special time together: we prize our intergenerational sisters. We will be exploring the three faces of the Goddess and Women's Spiritual Development but devoting special time this year to the aspect of the crone and how she impacts women of all ages.
Women interested in acknowledging their passage into the stage of crone and being acknowledged by the community in a women’s croning ritual as part of this weekend are invited for a special program of exploration on the experience of croning. This special segment will be on Thursday beginning at noon and limited to 13 participants so contact Rose at 573-289-3657 early if you are interested in croning with this community. Preparation questions will be provided ahead for the special segment. Rose Wise will be leading this segment. She is a 54 year old crone, mother and grandmother and High Priestess of Ozark Avalon. Rose was croned by Selena Fox at PSG in 2007 and thanks Selena and the crones of Pagan Spirit Gathering and by Aislinn FireHawk at Gaea Goddess Gathering in 2008. We wish to thank both groups for their guidance and inspiration and to develop a similar program here at Ozark Avalon
The regular weekend starting Friday at noon is $50 for adult women and includes meals - the croning program is an extra $50 and includes food and inside lodging as well as preparation questions that will be provided ahead of time so that you may reflect and consider them before the class. Limited scholarships and working credits are available. All community members over 12 are asked to contribute at least 2 hours to festival tasks including meal preparation.
Women who can are encouraged to donate to a fund for women who can't afford to attend. No woman will be denied solely due to inability to pay the registration fee. Maidens under 17 are free with mother or guardian. Mothers and daughters of any age and get a half price registration for one of the two. Retreat center sleeping space will be available on a first come first serve basis with crones and the disabled getting preference. Each participant is expected to contribute to the work of the community. This may entail a 2 hour shift. Please plan to share your time and talents in our women’s space. Bring drums, writing, songs and any other art that you wish to share in our sharing circle. There is no additional charge for vending. Plan to work and play together with other women on the tasks of festival.
Ozark Avalon is a 160 acre sacred land with a rustic retreat center, mobile homes and camping areas. We provide limited air-conditioned indoor bed space and floor space and some beds for those unable to camp. There are indoor bathrooms as well the frog bog outdoor shower house and art gallery. Meals are included and we prepare them together but tell us if you have special needs. Ozark Avalon is a federally recognized non-profit church of nature and donations may be tax deductible. Our mission is to provide outdoor worship space for all earth honoring persons.
